GOING TO UNI: UCAS Extra

UCAS Extra can be used as another way of getting a position in university. You can access UCAS Extra from 25th February 2020 to 5th July 2020.

Why you might use Extra?

  • You have not received an offer from any of your first 5 choices.

  • You have changed your mind on what you want to study at University.

  • You have changed your mind on the universities you want to go to.

The two most important things to remember is that you can ONLY add 1 choice at a time and all other offers must be off the table. So, if you have offers, you must decline them all and only then will you have access to Extra. This comes with risks so make sure to talk this through with the Destinations Department before you do this!

To find a course with vacancies, use the UCAS Search Tool. Double check that the university will accept you by giving them a ring or email – Do they have spaces? Do they accept your qualifications? If yes, then add the details through UCAS Track.

You can’t change your personal statement once your original UCAS application is submitted so if you’re choosing a completely different subject, you may need to change your personal statement and email it directly to the university you have added through UCAS Extra.

You must wait for a response from the university and then make a decision whether you want to take it. If it takes longer than 21 days, you can continue to wait or you can withdraw your application to that university and start again with a different university. If you do not want to take the offer they give you or are unsuccessful you can continue to apply to one university at a time until you are happy with the offer given to you.

If you do not have any offers by July 6thyou can go through Clearing. See the ‘Complete Guide to Results Day’ available in the LRC (and a copy given to you near to the end of your time at College) for further information.
